KORN Guitarist: 'I'm So Proud Of How Much The Whole New Record Kicks Ass'
August 15, 2007KORN guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer has issued the following update:
"First off, a straight-up 'thanks' to each and every one of you that bought the new KORN record already! You guys are the ones that keep us inspired, and believe me, we don't ever forget that!
"I feel like I really challenged myself and evolved as a guitarist on the new songs. I even got to bust out a sick little solo on 'Innocent Bystander', and I'm so proud of how much the whole record kicks ass. Another place I got to really challenge myself though is on the last track of MONSTER IN THE MACHINE's 'Butterfly Pinned'. The song is called 'Don't', and I really get to play a different style on it. I could describe it more, but you really need to hear it and feel it! It's definitely one of the coolest things that I've played on in a long time, and I know you're all going to dig it. MONSTER IN THE MACHINE frontman Shannon Crawford is one of the coolest and most talented people that I've ever met. He composed most of the record himself, and I'm honored to play on it! I'm also psyched for all you to hear a different side of my playing when 'Butterfly Pinned' drops next Tuesday, August 21st!
"For those of you that have been to Family Values, how fucking cool is it that we have Joey Jordison from SLIPKNOT tearing it up with us?! The shows have been so amazing, and he brings everything to a new level, especially the old songs. Don't miss it!
"Also, I have some more very important news, DROID is now headlining the second stage at 5:40pm at every Family Values date. Right after their set, the band and I will be signing autographs together at the Emotional Syphon Recordings [Munky's label] booth! So come down, pick up DROID's badass debut and hang with us after the set."
KORN's new, untitled album sold 123,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 2 on The Billboard chart. This is slightly more than half of the 221,000 first-week tally achieved by its predecessor, "See You on the Other Side", which landed at No. 3 back in December 2005.
